After losing his dad, Patrick, to dementia just six days before welcoming his son, Neil began recording guided conversations and transforming them into keepsake audiobooks. He has now captured more than 350 hours of stories for 32 families across six countries.
Today, @neilptaylor_ shares the loss that inspired his mission, what hundreds of hours of listening have taught him about the extraordinary stories hidden within ordinary lives, and why preserving a loved one’s voice can be even more meaningful than preserving memories. He also reveals how thoughtful questions and genuine listening can deepen our understanding of the people closest to us, bridge generations and even bring comfort amid grief.
My friends, if there is someone you love whose stories you have always meant to ask about, this conversation is for you. Being on fire for life isn’t about the “how.”
The mundane tasks and obligations of daily life may need to be done, but everything about life changes when the “why” is in front of you, reminding you of your purpose.
Our purpose is the light that keeps us going through even the darkest tunnel. It allows us to hold on tight—even when it’s hard, and even when it hurts like hell.
So, name your “why.” Keep it in front of you and hold it close to your heart. It won’t spare you from life’s hardest moments, but it will give you a reason to keep moving through them. ❤️‍🔥

All I knew was that @soulonfiremovie was finally happening. That a story I'd spent decades trying to make sense of was about to be shared with the world.
What I didn't know was how many people would pour their time, talent, energy, and heart into it. Or how many times we'd have to adapt. Or how emotional the final day would be.
And I certainly didn't know that eight years after first being asked, “Have you thought about turning your story into a movie?” I'd be standing on a set listening to our director Sean McNamara say:
“That's a wrap.”
We don't always know how our stories will unfold. But we do get to decide how we'll show up for them.
That's true of movies.
And it's true of life.
So whatever chapter you’re in, keep showing up. Your story isn’t finished yet.

The final day of filming @soulonfiremovie began be The final day of filming @soulonfiremovie began before 5 a.m. on Friday. It ended 19 hours later, getting home after midnight.
It was a beautiful, exhausting, unforgettable day.
We filmed some of the most iconic scenes in the movie, starting with my graduation from St. Louis University. Moving locations, we captured Beth and I’s wedding at the gorgeous Shrine of Saint Joseph with our actual friends and family seated in the church as extras. Moving again, we captured the wedding reception, complete with dancing.
At some point, after countless loops of Sweet Caroline playing overhead, it went silent, Sean McNamara rose from his director’s chair, took off the headset and proclaimed loudly, “That’s a wrap!”
Cheers erupted. Hugs were shared. And there were tears among the director, actors, producers and crew.
After eight years of effort, the movie had been filmed.
Throughout that long day, my phone never stopped buzzing. My phone logged 250 text messages by the time I went to bed.
Can you get the dress to set?
What time do busses need to be there?
Should your dad wear a tuxedo?
Can you head back…we need your actual hands to shoot a scene?
How would Jack have handed you the ball?
Did you dip Beth when dancing?
Where is the dinner?
Can I bring a friend?
Two hundred and fifty messages. It was an awesome day, and I was somehow in the middle of it all.
Then Monday arrived.
I rolled over, looked down at my phone and squinted.
Hmmm. Strange. Zero messages.
By noon there were a total of three.
Two of them were from Beth, reminding me to take the trash out.
My friends, I smiled- not because the messages were funny, but because the sudden changed made me realize how quickly we start believing the noise around us is proof of our worth.
We count emails, likes, invitations, meetings. We let motion masquerade as meaning. The more we do and the more we are needed, the more important we convince ourselves we are.
And yet, those 250 messages on Friday didn't make my life more valuable. And the three messages on Monday didn't make it any less.

John O'Leary - Live Inspired
Twenty-five years ago today, our nation endured unimaginable loss. In the days that followed, we mourned those who had been taken, honored the heroes who ran toward danger and struggled to imagine how we might ever move forward. When MLB returned six days later, my sister Susan and I were among more than 40,000 people gathered at Busch Stadium—not simply for a game, but to stand together in defiance of fear. Before the first pitch, Jack Buck stepped toward the microphone. He was a World War II veteran, an icon of baseball, a man battling advanced Parkinson’s disease—and as you all know, a personal hero of mine. The paper trembled in his hands, but his voice remained steady and resolute as he asked, “Should we be here?” His answer was an emphatic: “YES.”Jack then shared the poem featured in this video. His words honored all that had been taken from us while reminding us of what was still expected of us: courage, unity and hope.Today, on this 25th anniversary, choose to treasure the simple moments, celebrate our shared humanity, and act with a bit more kindness, compassion, and hope in a global marketplace that still aches for it.Choose to recognize the immeasurable value of your life–and the lives of those you encounter. And choose to believe the little things you do matter.Because, ultimately, our children will receive the future we’ll be giving.#NeverForget #September11 #JackBuck #LiveInspired ... The more we do and the more we are needed, the more important we convince ourselves we are.And yet, those 250 messages on Friday didn't make my life more valuable. And those three messages on Monday didn't make it any less. The truth is that the best measures of success and worth do not typically buzz in your pocket or toast loudly on some studio set. They rarely get broadcast, aren’t often celebrated and instead show up in quiet places like a morning prayer, a walk with a friend, and a dinner table surrounded with the people who know you best. So, as you step into this week, resist the pressure to equate busy with important. Get off the treadmill of believing that running faster makes you better. Choose to slow down and celebrate not that you've done it all, but that you are alive at all. Because in the end, the noise will stop and the messages will slow down. And when they do, you’ll recognize that your life was never made meaningful by how much the world needed you. You'll remember it was made meaningful by how fully you loved, how deeply you lived, and how present you were for the people who mattered most. Today is your day.
